Waterfowl — Oct 1 through Mar 31

Mallards over managed water.

Flighted mallard hunts in private impoundments and wild wood duck hunts in flooded timber and creeks — coastal North Carolina, October through March.

01 The Hunts

Two waterfowl programs, one property.

Iron Horn Sportsman’s Grounds runs two distinct waterfowl programs out of the same coastal North Carolina property — a polished flighted mallard operation built around realism and consistent shooting, and a wild wood duck hunt that’s as fast and traditional as Southern duck hunting gets.

Flighted mallards use strategically managed impoundments, refuge feeding systems, and elite bird sourcing to create true-to-life flight patterns and engaging shooting scenarios that feel far more authentic than typical release-style hunts. Up to 10 hunters per blind, four birds included per hunter.

Wild wood ducks are early-morning, action-packed, and centered on natural bird movement through flooded timber, creeks, and backwater systems. Wood ducks are the primary target, with opportunistic shots at teal, gadwall, and other puddle ducks depending on the day.

Both hunts are guided, retriever-supported, and pair seamlessly with on-site lodging.

07 FAQ

Common questions.

If your question isn’t here, give us a call.

How early should I book?
Prime dates — especially weekends from late October through January — fill quickly. Reach out 2–3 months in advance for first choice on dates and blinds.
Can we combine flighted mallards and wild wood ducks?
Yes. Many groups run a wood duck hunt at first light and a flighted mallard hunt in the afternoon. Talk to us about a multi-program day.
Is lodging required?
No, but most groups stay at least one night on the property. Pre-dawn starts are a lot easier when your bed is 200 yards from the blind.
Do you offer corporate packages?
Yes — multi-day, multi-hunt, multi-room packages built specifically for client entertainment. Contact us for custom pricing.
